POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Director, International Financial Operations, the Senior Financial Analyst, International Financial Operations supports the implementation and oversight of various international financial, treasury, and accounting operations, and controls requiring complex and cross-functional coordination.  This position is part of the university’s Global Support team which provides administrative support to the Finance Division and to the International Administrative Working Group (IAWG) - which supports faculty, staff and students who travel and/or work outside the United States.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Management of international bank accounts and controls. Working in close partnership with the Director, Treasury, Office of General Counsel, and Schools and Departments, the role is responsible for:
    • Evaluating appropriate global banking relationships/services/payment functions and related controls and procedures are in place to support the needs of the local entity
    • Executing international banking actions including opening and closing accounts; maintaining authorized signatories and online banking access
    • Reviewing and coordinate bank KYC and compliance requirements
    • Coordinating related regulatory reporting, including FBAR

 

Financial operating responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Participate in interdisciplinary projects across all central administrative functions and Schools and Departments (both in NY and overseas) to enhance international operations, such as:
    • Evaluating options for various systems supporting the country offices’ financial operations, including general ledger, payroll, and banking
    • Reviewing the University’s accounting for foreign currency transactions by ensuring polices are effective and in compliance with GAAP
    • Developing policies and procedures, job aids and training on new and current processes that support global activity
    • Assist in implementing a post-implementation review and compliance process for new international entities or operations

 

  • Work with peers in roles that support global operations to review current processes for enhancements which may be in response to special requests resulting from internal reviews, Internal Audit findings, or significant changes in a business model

 

  • Lead and/or participate in special projects as prioritized by the Director, International Financial Operations and in coordination with the IAWG leadership team

 

  • Serve as a business partner to NY based Schools’ and Departments’ administrative staff (and, when appropriate, to international country managers)

 

  • Assist with ad-hoc queries, accounting processes, and business analyses related to geographic expansion and the establishment of new entities

 

  • Maintain Global Support website

 

  • Be available for global travel, if needed, which could be up to two (2) weeks per year

 

  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

BA/BS required with an advanced degree desirable. A minimum of five (5) years related experience in a financial environment such as accounting, audit, or treasury required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office required. International experience with an intermediate understanding of components of US and foreign transaction processing, cash management and banking products, with specific regional expertise and/or industry knowledge desired.  Prior line responsibility in an international setting or international support organization desired. CPA or audit experience, CTP certification, along with experience in an institution of higher education or other large, complex organization is a plus. Project management skills and experience a plus. Understanding of accounting concepts and practices a plus.  Excellent organizational, facilitation, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including active listening skills, plus the ability to work closely and effectively with a diverse group of University administrators, including senior financial staff, characterized by strong consensus building and relationship building skills, essential. Must be able to negotiate issues, resolve problems and have strong influencing skills. In addition, the successful candidate should have a good understanding of the effect change will have on the organization, be able to work well with all levels of management, both internally and externally, be flexible in nature, have sound judgment with an open and collaborative style of leadership that encourages teamwork and cooperation beyond the immediate team to the broader organization.  Must have a passion for excellent customer service and commitment to exceptional quality.
